Big Bouffant & Voice

This week in Writer’s Workshop, students will be exploring the six traits, and explicitly voice. In order for students to better understand what voice is, we want to fill their understanding with great examples from fun literature. One of the new books in the library is Big Bouffant by Kate Hosford and illustrated by Holly Clifton-Brown.

This is a super fun book filled with rhyming text, great word choice, and a spunky, plucky main character by the name of Annabelle. Annabelle wants to be different than her peers, so she asks her mom to help her create a bouffant hair style like her grandmother’s. This certainly causes her to stand out! Annabelle singlehandedly changes the hair fashion trends in her class.

RBE students will listen to this book read aloud, and then they will pull some of the great words and phrases from this book to help them better understand how writer’s create voice.
