#MSELib Fall Scholastic Book Fair

At the McSpedden Library in October we hosted our first Scholastic Book Fair!

We are so lucky to have some absolutely amazing volunteers who came up night and day to help set up the book fair, decorate the outside of the library, restock the book fair, help students and teachers preview the book fair, work the registers, help with our special events, and then take the book fair down. I cannot thank our volunteers enough for all their help!

In the weeks leading up to the video, we had students do book talks for some of the books that would be in the book fair every morning on our announcements. I also had 2 students do a reader’s theater announcement at our morning assembly, Sonny Morning Live in the weeks leading up to the book fair.

The book fair week was a super exciting week! We had teacher preview day Thursday, October 9th. Also on Thursday, I went to all the student lunches and showed the book fair preview video to each grade. We had student preview day Friday, October 10th. Every class came to the book fair that day and every student made a wish list of the books they hoped to get from the book fair!

The first day of book fair was Parent Teacher Conference Day. We had the book fair open all day so parents and students could come shop. It was a VERY busy day! Then, we had the book fair open the rest of the week during the school day for classes to come and shop. We were also open before and after school for families to come shop.

McSpedden Reads!

We had a special event on Thursday, October 16th called McSpedden Reads! We had the book fair open for families to come and shop.

Our generous PTA provided drinks and cookies for students who came dressed in their PJ’s! Then, in the cafeteria we hosted several special readers who read some of the books from the book fair out loud to groups of students.

We had some of the BEST guest readers EVER! We had: Sonny McSpedden and his daughter Joannie, Dr. Lyon the superintendent of Frisco ISD, Mrs. Meek our principal, Mrs. Singh our assistant principal, Renee’ M. Ehmke who serves on our Frisco ISD School Board, Anne McCausland who also serves on the Frisco ISD School Board, and myself.  Our guest readers did a fabulous job of reading and helped us encourage our students to read!
