English Class Book Clubs

In Frisco ISD, our students are encouraged to participate in book clubs through their English classes. Frisco ISD Book Clubs are small groups of students reading the same text of their choice. These texts are selected by a small group of students collectively and are free choice; teachers cannot select the text choices or limit the text choices for book clubs. Book clubs are a student-led approach to independent reading in which students engage in shared reading and discussion. Teachers may ask students within a book club to determine roles, expectations, and processes during their study of the text. The purpose of book clubs is for students to deepen their understanding of a common text, extend their thinking as they process and interpret the perspectives and opinions of their peers, and co-construct a richer understanding of a text.

This post is meant as a resource for students to use if they would like suggestions for what to read. Students can also see what books are in the Reedy Library here and ebooks and digital audiobooks here. There are lists on the Reedy Library Catalog page for some of the book lists below.

Students can also see what genres might be interesting to them by taking this fun Quiz!

The #ProjectLit Community aims to eliminate book deserts and promote a love of reading in our community. We believe wholeheartedly in the power of reading and in its ability to bring people together and transform lives. Over the past three years, they have connected with all-star students, teachers, and authors to transform a class project into a national literacy movement — one step, one book, and one conversation at a time!

The books they recommend are selected by students, for students. They have both Young Adult and Middle Grade book selections. The Reedy Library has most of these, and I have ordered the ones that we don’t. I am also reading these books!
