Black Elk’s Vision: A Lakota Story  by S.D. Nelson is a serious and fascinating biography that is also one of our 2011-2012 Bluebonnet Books.

In this book, the author tells the story of Black Elk’s life through his eyes. The book starts at the begining of Black Elk’s life and follows him through the tragic events of Black Elk’s life. Black Elk watched the demise of his Lakota (or Sioux) people.

The Native Americans of our country had a rich and lively culture that was destroyed by settlers who took over their lands and destroyed their resources. In this book, you will see through historically accurate pictures and beautiful illustrations the sad events of Black Elk’s life.

One of my favorite parts though, was hearing about Black Elk’s visions and his rememberances of being in contact with the spirits of his culture.

If you like history and are interested in Native American culture, then this is the book for you! Check it out at the RBE Library!
